Story-in-Pictures "THX 1138" Photo No. 1 It is a century of the future. A computer-controlled subterranean world. Men and women are programmed into subjection through the use of drugs. The sex act is unlikely as the drugs remove the desire, but in any event it is forbidden. Laws are enforced by mechanical men. No one has a name, only a number and prefix. But they alll live, breathe, work. They are human beings.
	Story-in-Pictures "THX 1138" Photo No. 2 THX 1138 (Robert Duvall) and LUH 3417 (Maggie McOmie) are roommates. They have been skipping their daily drug requirements and are beginning to feel the first stirrings of sexual awareness. This is complicated when SEN 5241 (Donald Pleasence) asks THX to be his roommate, and admits having manipulated the computer to have LUH transferred. This is a state offence.
	Story-in-Pictures "THX 1138" Photo No. 3 When THX and LUH meet in their quarters that evening they are almost free of medication. Sensually awakened, like children experimenting, they engage in the act of love. Fearful, now, that he might lose LUH, THX makes a violation report on his would-be roommate. SEN is arrested.
	Story-in-Pictures "THX 1138" Photo No. 4 By now THX's subnormal drug level has been noted by the authorities and he also has been arrested. He is taken away for trial by computer and convicted of drug evasion and sexual perversion. He is sentenced "to be consumed as economics dictate."
	Story-in-Pictures "THX 1138" Photo No. 5 Prison is an infinite whiteness. Automated police with electric prods are on guard, but one day THX walks into the infinity of nothingness and meets a stranger who claims to know the way out. They come upon a huge room with rows of embryos in bottles. THX discoveres that one of them is his unborn child and that LUH is dead.
	Story-in-Pictures "THX 1138" Photo No. 6 THX manages to steal a jet-car and races the sub-structural tunnels chased by robot police on jet-motorbikes. Despite a crash by his car and the motorcycles, THX manages to elude his pursuers. He discovers a steel ladder which leads to a sealed dome. As he unlocks the hatch, a blinding column of light strikes him. He enters the sunshine into what he hopes will be a new world.
