Ex-boxer and unbalanced but vulnerable drifter Kevin 'kid' Collins (Jason Patric) meets Fay Anderson (Rachel Ward), an alcoholic widower in a bar. He tries to chat to her, her response being offhand and bitchy with the muscle-bound barman playing along to her tune. The barman takes it upon himself to throw Collins out of the bar, what for, talking? Collins does not hesitate to lay the goon out with one punch. He has talent, and maybe just what Fay and her uncle Bud (Bruce Dern) are looking for in their pursuit in making some money by kidnapping a little rich kid...

A very entertaining and brooding movie, handled deftly by director James Foley which along with the good performances should keep you curious and stationary to the end.
