John Murdoch wakes up in a bathtub to find he has lost his memory, then a phone rings and a strange voice tells him to leave as there are people looking for him. It turns out he is wanted for a series of murders and also there are some shadowy beings known as 'The Strangers' after him because he has powers that no other human has. Rufus Sewell and Kiefer Sutherland star in Alex Proyas mesmerising science fiction film noir.

Housekeeper Dolores Claiborne (Kathy Bates) and estranged daughter join forces when Dolores is accused of the murder of her rich employer in a seemingly open and shut case. Kathy Bates delivers an excellent performance backed up by a strong cast in an adaptation of a Steven King novel.

Donnie Darko explores time travel, destiny, or is it all just paranoid schizophrenia involving a giant rabbit with bad teeth? Who knows? Many questions abound in this outstanding movie.

The islanders of a small remote island called Balfe are a secretive bunch. Some of them have physical deformities and other problems and it is suspected by the islanders that these conditions are caused by generations of inbreeding. Dr Dell Shaw who is part of the Doomwatch team (an ecological watchdog group) is sent to the island to investigate the effects of an oil tanker spill. In the process of carrying out his work he finds an area cordoned off by the ministry of defence that could throw some light on the islander's disease.

Dr Who and the Daleks (1965)

Director: Gordon Flemyng

The Dr (Peter Cushing) travels with some chums in the Tardis to a planet populated with people that wear too much make-up and those pesky Daleks, who happen to be up to no good again. Although very dated now it's not bad for the young and the youngster in us.

Dune (1984)

Director: David Lynch
Certification: 15

David Lynch directs this flawed epic, Dune. Set in the year 10191 when rival interstellar factions try to gain control of the Spice Melange, which permits long distant space travel by way of folding space. The spice only exists on one planet, Arrakis, a desolate planet which is the home of the Fremen.

The main reason this movie is flawed is because it was edited badly, from the length Lynch envisioned (reportedly 3 hours or more) to 2 hours 17 minutes which is a great shame. Although there are some problems with this movie I found this a very enjoyable watch. Stars: Kyle MacLachlan, Patrick Stewart, Brad Dourif, Dean Stockwell and Max von Sydow.
