During a torrential storm at night various strangers become stranded at a motel. Soon people start dying whilst elsewhere a psychiatrist is trying to stay the execution of a serial killer, but how are these two circumstances related? A 10 little Indians type thriller that has many twists to keep you guessing. This is an interesting and intelligent whodunit with an excellent cast that includes John Cusack, Ray Liotta, Alfred Molina and Rebecca De Mornay.

I, Robot (2004)

This movie is not I, Robot, it has nothing much to do with Asimov's robot mysteries and it is not even in the spirit of what Asimov wrote as most of the intelligence has been left out. With that gotten out the way, I, Robot is a commercialised and homogenised sci-fi romp consisting of another rebel cop doing what rebel cops do for the umpteenth time, made worse by the added feature of product placement.

The principal elements here are the computer generated special effects and action, but are we to believe that in the future everything looks like a computer game? For example, in one of the car chase scenes rather than there being thrills and excitement, the excessive amount of CGI used removes the sensation of danger and the reality of the situation, even Bob Hoskins made driving an automobile more exciting and realistic in Who Framed Roger Rabbit. There are some good moments in this film, but alas this is another case of a missed opportunity.
