Bridget Gregory (Linda Fiorentino) is a femme fatale of the highest order. After making off with the proceeds of a drug deal from her husband she then moves on to a small town and the next poor masochistic sap that falls for her looks. A modern day film noir that has its roots in films like Out of the Past (1947), The Last Seduction is an entertaining thriller.

Who cares about the plot? Sure as hell those responsible for TLOEG didn't. All that was on their minds was the bigger the better, the faster the better, more action more excitement, the more CGI the more sensational, the guns go rat-a-tat-tat and the bombs go boom! This movie goes plop into an awful puerile mess. The amount of things in that are totally absurd is extraordinary. There is suspension of disbelief then there is scooping large portions of you brain out and throwing it away. Ok so it's a fantasy comic book popcorn movie, but for heavens sake! Watch it for 15 minutes then walk out or turn it off as you have seen the best of it.

An acutely shy northern lass, 'LV', lives with her mother spending most of her days hidden away in her bedroom but unbeknownst to the world the possessor of a remarkable singing talent (as does Jane Horrocks who plays the part). Her mother Mari Hoff (Brenda Blethyn) is the complete opposite, she is a loud and boisterous tart with few finer qualities. When Mari's newest conquest, Ray Say (Michael Caine), an "agent to the stars", discovers LV's talent they both try to exploit her with many unforeseen consequences. This movie is funny, sad and happy all wrapped up in one. Also stars Ewan McGregor and Jim Broadbent.

This is a sensory deprivation movie, it should have been a short, instead it saunters along for 1½ hours too long without getting anywhere. The two lead characters spend most of their time looking derisive and bored, I felt the same whilst watching it. Instead of watching this movie stare at a wall for a more enlightening experience, at least it wouldn't be a pretentious, unfunny, insular and boring movie. By the way, I did 'get' the movie but found that the two main characters spoilt and arrogant to the point that I didn't desire to 'invest' in feeling alongside them. It's also not enough to create a movie situation for empathy and not take it anywhere. You may find yourself watching this thinking 'it has to get better', well it doesn't.
