The Vanishing (1993) is a 'based on' remake of the Dutch, Spoorloos (1988) with a different ending for an American audience. Jeff Harriman's (Kiefer Sutherland) girlfriend Diane Shaver (Sandra Bullock) goes missing at an automobile rest stop, unknown to Jeff she has been abducted by a creepy guy called Barney (Jeff Bridges). Jeff pursues the truth of what happened, turning into an obsession of three years, until Barney offers Jeff the chance to find out the whole truth of what happened. Also stars Nancy Travis.
