Leona Gillings is trying to make contact with her late husband. After the death of his overbearing mother Alex Worthing, a bank clerk, embarks on a round-the-world cruise on his yacht, The Victoria. Being not a terribly good sailor and somewhat clumsy, Alex ends up falling off his yacht, luckily to end up on a desert island with some goats for company. As the months pass Alex longs for someone to talk to and, as if by answer to his prayers, he spots a woman swimming towards the island.

Waitress, Carrie Clark, is plagued by dreams which foretell of things to come. While working at a restaurant, Carrie spots Sue Tarleton, a model, who she recognises from one of her dreams. Knowing that if Sue leaves the restaurant at her pre-destined time she will meet with a fatal accident, Carrie warns Sue not to leave the restaurant until after 10pm. Sue and her friend, Greg Richards, take no heed of the warning and they leave to Sue's deadly fate. Greg Richards is quick to realise the money making potential of Carrie's psychic gift.

Somewhere in a crowd a certain number of individuals are watching, they watch dispassionately as disaster strikes. William Searle, a television commentator, notices that whenever he observes a tragedy there are the same five 'watchers' in the crowd. At the launching of a ship William once again spots the five 'watchers' portending a disaster is about to occur. What is he to do? The commentator tries to warn the authorities but his story is far from convincing.
