Sherlock Holmes

After the success of The Speckled Band (1964), part of the Detective (1964 - 1969) series, a further twelve Sherlock Holmes episodes were commissioned with Douglas Wilmer as Holmes and Nigel Stock as Watson in the leading roles. A second series of sixteen episodes were produced although this time without Wilmer, instead Peter Cushing took over as the astute detective. The first series has mostly survived the BBC's 'filing methods' whist the second has largely been erased, destroyed or lost.
