Trailer Park Boys

Before The Office was seen as some sort of groundbreaking television, Trailer Park Boys had been there and done that in its own, more incorrigible way. Set mostly in a Canadian trailer park the series follows the antics of Ricky and Julian and the folks that live in the park. Filmed as a mockumentary in a fly-on-the-wall style, Trailer Park Boys is the creation Mike Clattenburg who along with old school mates John Paul Tremblay (Julian) and Robb Wells (Ricky) made this series happen. If you can chill out and not take it seriously you may just enjoy it for its irreverence and distinctive humour.

Ricky (Robb Wells) and Julian (John Paul Tremblay) leave prison on parole having spent eighteen months behind bars. The pair return back home to the trailer park to find things have changed during their absence. Ricky discovers that his girlfriend doesn't want him back and so has nowhere to sleep and both have one problem in common. His name is Cyrus. Cyrus is a guy who thinks he is now the top dog of the park because he has a gun and takes every opportunity to remind anyone he bumps into. Surely Ricky and Julian won't put up with his shit for very long.

A dog has been barking all night so Ricky can't sleep, but on the whole he's happy with his lot, sleeping in Julian's car, getting drunk and eating chicken fingers. Julian wants to leave the Sunnyvale trailer park but he kinda feels responsible for Ricky, who is a bit stupid and totally irresponsible. Julian decides it would be good if Ricky could help him fix his beat up old car so he can move out of the park. Surely he can't really be leaving?

Needing to get himself straight and make some money to get back with Lucy, Ricky wants to set up his hydroponics plant business but hasn't the money to do so. By chance J-Roc is looking for someone and offers Ricky the opportunity to make some quick cash. J-Roc is about to film a porno with the title 'From Russia With The Love Bone' and has just the part for Ricky. While they are filming Jim Lahey, the park's supervisor, barges into the action with J-Roc's mother in tow. Jim sees fit to confiscate the porno tape the group were in the process of making and blackmails Ricky into leaving the park.

Mrs Peterson leaves her dog, Sparky with Julian so that she can go to the hospital. Unfortunately Julian has to go somewhere so asks Ricky to look after the dog whilst he's away. Good move! As Ricky is looking after the dog he bakes some weed brownies for the old folk's home, but when his back is turned Sparky eats them instead and Ricky gets shot in the butt by his young daughter. Looks like Julian will have to do some disaster management again.

Lucy dumps Ricky. To get the pair back together again Julian asks Bubbles for some advice. Bubbles being the brains of the trailer park, tells him that it's good to lie, if it's a good lie, for good reasons, or something to that effect. Julian, taking Bubbles advice, tells Lucy that Ricky wants to marry her. Then to get Ricky to pop the question he tells another lie, this time that people in the trailer park suspect that Ricky is gay, and to stop the rumours Ricky should ask Lucy to marry him. Instead Ricky thinks that he may in actual fact be gay.

Ok what happened? Er... Ricky is to wed Lucy which, of course, means that Julian has to arrange virtually everything including all the food for the reception. Julian comes up with the dazzling idea of holding up a food store to steal what they need. First they have to get Ricky out of the way so they get him drunk at his stag party. Later when Julian, Bubbles, Cory and Trevor are busy raiding the store they are caught off guard by Ricky entering the store for a pack of cigarettes. Not knowing what is going on and being rather drunk, Ricky starts shooting at the raiders. These guys are really very dumb...
