Episode 1 - Where Is Everybody?

Where Is Everybody? That's the question. Mike Ferris (Earl Holliman) finds himself in a peculiar situation and what is most puzzling is he can't remember who he is. Mike enters a café but there's no-one there, maybe the owner has popped out for a minute? Strange! Ok, so he helps himself to a coffee and talks to himself whilst trying to find the owner - nothing, nobody. After having his coffee he walks to the nearby town, surely there will be people there? No-one there either, stranger still. What could have happened to all the people? Mike is starting to get worried, where have all the people gone? Why does he feel he's being watched?

On a hot July day, street seller Lou Bookman (Ed Wynn) gets a visit from a stranger, and no ordinary stranger at that, but Death himself (Murray Hamilton). Lou's time is up but he is unwilling to pass through the pearly gates. He uses his gift of the gab to try to wheedle his way out of this situation. When Death explains that the he can only get a reprieve from the death sentence if there were extenuating circumstances, Lou concocts an excuse that he needs more time to make a "pitch for the angels", he is so persuasive that Death himself agrees to give Lou a while longer on this earth. Lou thinks he's rather smart managing to dupe death but realises later that there are consequences. After all Death is not a stupid fellow.

Episode 3 - Mr. Denton on Doomsday

Out in an old western town, Al Denton ex-gunslinger and down on his luck drunkard, has not much of a life, especially when he is being taunted by the local bullies. But someone is on his side, a mysterious character by the name of Henry J. Fate, who is controlling events now. First a gun appears out of thin air in the road next to Denton then 'accidentally' Denton fires a shot that disarms one of the bullies who is spoiling for a gunfight. Mr Fate has a few other things up his sleeve for Denton as the story unfolds.

Image is everything, so they say in the movie world. This unfortunately is what Barbara Jean Trenton (Ida Lupino) has taken to heart and where she has gone wrong. In a darkened room at her mansion, Barbara spends all her time watching old movies in which she starred during her heyday, transfixed on her image, wishing for those days back again. She has few friends left, only her agent and maid check on her occasionally and as her obsession has been getting worse they are worried about her. It cannot be good for her being totally removed from reality, thinking only about how she can recapture those good old days. But maybe she's found a way?

If your childhood was within walking distance would you visit? Martin Sloan stops at a gas station, he seems agitated and impatient as he waits for the attendant. Strangely enough when asked if he wants the car to have an oil change he says "yeah" and adds "I'm in no hurry". It is at this point he realises that he is in walking distance to where he grew up and hadn't been back there for 20 - 25 years. As he has an hour or so to spare in his hectic life, Martin goes to visit the town of his childhood not knowing that he is actually going to be stepping back into his past.

Walter Bedeker is a hypochondriac. All he does is think of himself and his death, not caring about anyone but himself. What would he give to be indestructible and live forever? After all he wouldn't then have to worry about the moment that everyone else has to face. Walter gets his chance when an apparition appears in his room calling himself Cadwallader. It's not long before Walter figures out what the phantom really is, but after some bargaining he signs a contract that will give him immortality. The thing is though, is immortality all it is cracked up to be?

Henry Bemis is a compulsive bookworm and all Henry wants is to be able to have some time to read. The trouble is that his wife won't let him and he risks losing his job at the bank where he works, if he gets caught reading during work hours one more time. The only time Henry has got to himself is his lunch break, so he steals himself off to the bank's vault and pulls the door up. As Henry reads his newspaper in secret, the world ends, or rather a new type of bomb changes Henry's life forever, leaving him time enough at last to read as much as he wants.
